It is bordered on the west and east by Western and Walker avenues and spans from NW 16th to NW 22nd streets. Another home on the tour, located at 931 NW 18th St., is the largest house in Mesta Park and was originally built for the bishop of the Methodist-Episcopal Church. A group of Discalced Carmelite, or “barefoot,” nuns who had limited contact with the outside world, later lived in the house, as detailed in article published in The Oklahoman in 1947. The Mesta Park Neighborhood Association introduced Mesta Festa in 1995 as a fundraiser to usher in beautification and improvements to a beloved neighborhood. The tradition has evolved and expanded over the years, but the MPNA mission remains the same – to invest in the neighborhood and uphold the sense of community its founders must have envisioned. Judging will be based on “curb appeal” as viewed from the street only.
